Emberlance Saga
Emberlance Saga is the game I lost a whole weekend to. It's a proper turn-based RPG with a world that actually bothers to explain itself — characters have grudges, towns have histories, and the writing has a dry humor I didn't expect from a phone game.
Combat is grid-based and rewards planning. You can autobattle the easy fights to save your thumbs, but the boss encounters genuinely made me stop and think about positioning. The touch targets are large enough that I rarely tapped the wrong unit, which matters when a mistake costs you a party member.
The downside: it's a battery eater once the bigger environments load, and my phone got noticeably warm during long story chapters. I ended up lowering the graphics preset in the options, which helped a lot without ruining the look.
What we liked
- Writing that actually makes you care
- Thoughtful turn-based combat
- Autobattle option for grinding
